Just a quick update on the site and myself. I realized a couple things in the last month:
- I don’t want to study Arabic right now (which, for those of you who haven’t been following along, as been what I’ve been studying for a couple months).
- On the blog, I’m going to take the focus off of me and put it back on the needs of language learners.
Re: the former. Arabic is a beautiful language, but my goal to take the translation test took the focus away from everyday language and on media Arabic. I made great progress and I was (mostly) consistent with my studies. I was probably at 90% of my best in Arabic, if not higher. I just began to dread studying. Ultimately I realized if it’s not fun, I’m not going something right. I want to learn foreign languages to make friends and appreciate foreign books, TV shows, movies, and music–not to be a translator.
I’ve decided to tackle a language I’ve always wanted to learn, for both cultural and practical reasons: Spanish. I’m already looking forward to watching telenovelas.
Re: the latter. Judging by the page views, no one cares about my personal language journey. I don’t blame you. LOL. I’ll create a page on the site that details my personal language roadmap, and I’ll reference what I’m studying in my posts. But I’m not going to make my studies the focus. I’m going to pay more attention to what others need and deliver it.
